Read the quotation
GBP/USD expresses US dollars per pound sterling. The first currency is the base; the second is the quote currency. The pair is also commonly called cable.
A simple numerical example
Illustrative only: at 1.25 USD per GBP, GBP 800 equals USD 1,000 before fees. A different rate or fee changes the amount received.
What to follow — and why
- Compare Bank of England and Federal Reserve policy expectations.
- Put UK and US inflation, employment and growth reports in context; an announcement is not a guaranteed directional signal.
- Check the timing and terms of a quote. Reference rates do not include your provider’s spread or fees.
Useful next steps
The EUR/USD spread calculator is not a GBP/USD calculator. Use documented GBP/USD terms when assessing a trading account.
- Currency conversion & exchange-cost comparison
- Understand the documented broker conditions — not a list of providers confirmed to offer GBP/USD.
